Paper Gods was founded in 2006 by Lycia member John Fair. This music project didn't come about until after a long hiatus of no music writing after working with Lycia on the album "Empty Space." John's whole intent for Paper Gods was to be an instrumental project that centered around short compositions written entirely with orchestral instrument sounds. Paper Gods is typically labeled as "Neo-Classical." In 2006 John released the first Paper Gods EP simply titled "Paper Gods," as well as forming his own publishing company with BMI.
After the first Paper Gods release, John was contacted via Myspace by a former friend, Youssef Alaoui, regarding the project. Youssef asked to put vocals to a song, and John agreed. The two worked together on the second Paper Gods release titled "Lay Down With Swine." This EP ended up being a collection of songs that are half instrumental and half with vocals. This was released in late 2006. After this release, John continued to work on music that was entirely instrumental.
In April 2009, Mortalha of M. Sadotherapy requested to be a friend of Paper Gods on Myspace. John listened to Mortalha's vocals and found her voice to be the perfect compliment to Paper Gods music. John sent Mortalha a song and asked her to put vocals on it. Not long after that, John and Mortalha had the third Paper Gods EP titled "Tragedies and Tragic Days" finished. After completion of the EP, John asked Mortalha to be a permanent member of Paper Gods, and she graciously accepted. Paper Gods was at that time John Fair (Music) and Mortalha (Vocals/Lyrics). That working relationship ended quickly.
In June 2009, John came in contact with Kris Tilbury (a Lyric Soprano) that was interested in doing vocals for Paper Gods. John heard her vocals and immediately knew that Kris was the vocalist he was always looking for! Kris recorded some vocal tracks that proved to be wonderful, and shortly after that, Paper Gods was signed to Fossil Dungeon Records. The two put together a six song EP titled "Woolgathering" with Kris Tilbury on vocals. Presently, Paper Gods is John Fair (Music) and Kris Tilbury (Vocals/Lyrics).
Jan/2010, John and Kris mutually agreed to part ways. John will continue with Paper Gods as an instrumental project.
The above-mentioned CDs are available through CD Baby and digital distributors such as iTunes, etc. "Woolgathering" is a digital only release.
